The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

Dr. Panos P. Markopoulos (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Athens, Greece, in 1986. He received the Engineering Diploma degree (five-year program) in electronic and computer engineering, the M.S. degree in electronic and computer engineering, from the Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in electrical engineering from The State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA, in 2015.

The talk conveys a vision of Machine Learning Security based on Information Forensics and Security. In a nutshell, the IFS community protects three cardinal values (confidentiality, integrity, and property) of informative
content, be it a transmitted signal (physical layer), an image (watermarking), or some text (fake news detection), for instance.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society Gujarat Chapter has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Chapter of the Year Award!

Sound field estimation using a microphone array is a fundamental problem in acoustic signal processing, which has a wide variety of applications, such as visualization/auralization of an acoustic field, spatial audio reproduction using a loudspeaker array or headphones, and active noise cancellation in a spatial region.

New York University

NYU ECE Department is looking to hire in all areas related to wireless systems including, but not limited to (in alphabetical order): antennas, circuits, communications theory, information theory, machine learning, networking, radio propagation, signal processing, sensing, security, and applications.

Dr. Luna Dong is ACM Distinguished Member for her contributions on knowledge integration and knowledge fusion, and the recipient of the VLDB Early Career Research Contribution Award for "Advancing the state of the art of knowledge fusion". The Knowledge-based Trust project she led at Google was called the “Google Truth Machine” by Washington’s Post.

Kush R. Varshney was born in Syracuse, NY in 1982. He received the B.S. degree (magna cum laude) in electrical and computer engineering with honors from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 2004. He received the S.M. degree in 2006 and the Ph.D. degree in 2010, both in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge.

Sergios Theodoridis has been named the IEEE Signal Processing Society Awards Board Chair beginning 1 January 2022 and will serve until 31 December 2024.

Pamela Guevara received her B.S. with honors in Electronics Engineering from Universidad de Concepción, Chile in 2001. She then received a Master’s degree in medical Imaging and a Ph.D. in Physics, both from the Université Paris-Sud, France, both with honors, in 2007 and 2011, respectively.

As a popular signal modeling technique, sparse representation (SR) has achieved great success in image fusion during the last decade. However, due to the patch-based manner adopted in standard SR models, most existing SR-based image fusion methods suffer from two drawbacks, namely, limited ability in detail preservation and high sensitivity to mis-registration, while these two issues are of great concern in image fusion.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC.

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 13 Technical Committees and 2 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing-related activities defined by the scope of the Society.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society has developed guidelines related to SPS Chapter social media and Chapter Activities.

Many problems encountered in sensing and imaging can be formulated as estimating a low-rank object from incomplete, and possibly corrupted, linear measurements; prominent examples include matrix completion and tensor completion.

Did you know the Society offers funding under the Member Driven Initiatives program for events that encourage involvement by SPS membership, including local chapters, universities, industry members as well as individual members? Programs under the Member Driven Initiatives include Seasonal Schools, Forums, Regional Meetings, and Chapter Initiatives.

Nominations will be open 1 December–15 June for IEEE Medals and Recognitions—IEEE’s highest awards. All are encouraged to submit a nomination for a worthy candidate within their technical fields.
